Welcome to the website of the
That’s me -- Karla Wendelin.

I started my career as an elementary school teacher in Indiana. After earning a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia, I spent 20 years as a university professor at the University of Texas-San Antonio and at the University of Nebraska teaching courses in reading, language arts, children’s literature, and adolescent literature.

I left the university and became an elementary school librarian, a position I enjoyed for 12 years. I have also taught graduate courses in children's and adolescent literature for Doane College and graduate courses in the school library program at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

I have served as a consultant for the PBS program “Reading Rainbow” and author of the Teacher’s Guide and Math Guide for the series.

I am now retired and live, surrounded by books, in a log house in Nebraska with my husband, Tom, and our dog, Bella.
