GEORGIA
(Text used: My Name Is Georgia by Jeanette Winter)
I've always known what I wanted to be
an artist
At home
I drew pictures of
what I saw
At school
I drew statues
in museums
I painted
my teachers' ideas
When school days were over
I walked into the sunset
I felt the wind
I painted
day and night
I went to be where artists live
in canyons of steel
I lived in the clouds
and painted
what I saw
flowers
BIG
so people would see flowers
the way I saw them
I went to the desert
far away
by myself
I gathered bones
I painted what I saw
red hills
the Pedernal mountain
over and over again
I painted the sky
BIG
so people would see the sky
the way I did
I painted the last cloud
I laid my brushes down
